As you can see, I spent alot of time on this assignment:). I developed some DHTML or is it DXHTML? tee hee.. I had already achieved this before but the problem was loading the correct ID from an external link. So I created a function that collects the variable attached to the url and initiates the function onload...

I also had to use a setInterval() function because for some reason it didn't want to apply until after you clicked the link once... real strange...Anyway,I added an entry page with a jumpmenu that that loads the layer variable and voila:)

I've tested on my MAC on Safari, Opera, Firefox:)... even my daughter's touch ipod:)
PC : Firefox:)
PC : Explorer:(... I had some issues with the visited links so I made the link and vlink values the same... Hopefully this solves this. Though it wasn't an issue with any other browser. I guess that IE goes to default visited when none is provided... I will retest this once I have access to a PC
Anyway it was a fun development project that I hopefully can use a lot in the future...
